Focus on Teaching and Technology: A Regional Conference at UMSL

University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) invites you to register for their Focus on Teaching and Technology Regional Conference on November 10-11, 2011.

Scholars, educators, and practitioners from numerous universities share their technology innovations and teaching experiences.

This year, they will offer two keynote presentations:

Choose from 24 concurrent sessions and 9 pre-conference workshops during the two-day conference! There is no charge to attend the concurrent sessions at the conference (thanks to generous sponsors), and there are always good ideas and networking opportunities to take away.  There is, however, a $20 fee for each two-hour pre-conference workshop on Thursday (this fee includes lunch.)  Register for one or both days now!

UM eLearning Sponsors “eLunch @ S&T” on September 30

University of Missouri System eLearning will be sponsoring “eLunch @ S&T” on Friday, September 30, 2011 from noon to 1:30 p.m. This will take place in the Carver/Turner Room of the Havener Center.

S&T eMentors will be discussing techniques and technologies they are using in their classes to improve student learning. The eMentors will also provide advice and suggestions for incorporating technology into a course. After two short presentations, there will be time for discussion and questions.

Blackboard Seminar Series – Rubrics: Friday, September 16, 2011

Educational Technology (EdTech) is hosting a Blackboard Seminar Series event at noon on Friday, September 16, 2011 in Centennial 103.

The focus of the discussion will be RUBRICS, an invaluable tool in grading highly subjective assignments such as discussion boards and presentations.

Why should rubrics be used? How can they be used effectively? Julie Phelps, Instructional Technologist for Educational Technology, will guide the discussion towards answers to these questions.

All instructors are welcome to attend.

All attendees are welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch. EdTech will provide water, dessert, and some other snacks.

FLC — Using TurningKey for Testing

Instructors will discover how to use TurningKey software in conjunction with clickers to give paper-based, self-paced tests that can be graded instantly, showing the instructor individual results for each student. Reports can easily be generated for valuable feedback, assisting instructors in aligning course and unit objectives with evaluation and assessment procedures.

Summer Semester Blackboard Courses Become Unavailable on Thursday, September 1, 2011

IT and Educational Technology will make Blackboard courses for Summer Semester 2011 “unavailable” to students at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011.

Summer Semester 2011 courses will still be visible to instructors, but students will no longer see the courses.
