The Missouri S&T license for Adobe Connect is expiring at the end of Spring 2018, and the service will no longer be available. Alternative solutions for online meetings and lecture capture are currently in place, such as Zoom, Panopto, and Canvas Conferences.
If you have any Adobe Connect recordings you would like to preserve, you will need to download the recordings from Adobe Connect before the campus license expires. You can then re-upload them to My Media in Canvas or to a Google Drive, or some other preferred storage location. EdTech (edtech@mst.edu) can assist you with downloading recordings.
Supported replacement technologies for Adobe Connect
Panopto (lecture capture)
This is available in Canvas and is ideal for standard lecture capture. It can capture multiple monitors and video streams, and recordings are available to students in very short order. It is not ideal for synchronous, two-way communication.
Canvas Conferences (livestream)
Canvas has an internal tool called Conferences that shares many of the same features of Adobe Connect, but a bit easier to use. Canvas recommends using this for no more than 100 students. Recordings are only available for 14 days and cannot be downloaded. It is quite useful for office hours, but can also be used for synchronous, two-way communication for an entire class.
Zoom (livestream)
Missouri S&T has its own Zoom instance available to all faculty, students, and staff. Simply login to http://mst.zoom.us with your S&T userid and password to get started with a basic Zoom account. Zoom is ideal for synchronous two-way communication between classrooms or for office hours or even for distance instruction. Recordings are usually stored on a local machine, but can be easily uploaded into My Media in Canvas. With a basic account, recordings are limited to 40 minutes, and meetings with more than two people are limited to 40 minutes. Information Technology can upgrade an instructor to a Zoom Pro account for $12/year. Simply contact the IT Help Desk (http://help.mst.edu) to request an upgrade.
Educational Technology will be more than happy to help you transition away from Adobe Connect to a different solution. Feel free to contact us at edtech@mst.edu to request a consultation.
